Dear Mr Lawson
I refer to your letter dated 7th June 1999. The season ticket renewal
letters were sent out 2nd Class. That was a conscious decision on our part,
and I have to say that only in exceptional circumstances does any mail leave
these premises by other than 2nd Class Post. I do accept, however, that
there were a number of supporters who were disappointed at the delay in
receiving their renewal forms, hence why we extended the renewal date to 3rd
July. There is definitely no truth in the rumour that Royal Mail refused to
deliver due to non-payment of postal charges.
The season ticket response we have received this season has been quite
incredible. At the time of writing, over 20,500 season tickets have been
sold, with four weeks to go to the first home match.
One area we will definitely be looking at in the future is that all renewal
letters should be distributed via the Box Office at Goodison Park and not
through an outside agency.
Anyway, I do accept that you are trying to be constructive, and it is nice
to know that supporters such as yourself do have such a deep feeling for the
Club. Hopefully many of the major issues surrounding the Club will be
resolved within the coming four to six weeks, when we can then try and take
some positive steps to rebuilding the reputation of this club on and off the
field.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Dunford
Club Secretary
